Robert Spitz
After completing my PhD in Exercise Health and Kinesiology at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, I was appointed as a postdoctoral research fellow to the T32 training grant on 09/01/2023. Since beginning my fellowship under the guidance of Dr. John Hall and Dr. Mouton, I have learned several new techniques that will enhance my research capabilities. I have started working with animal models and have learned surgical techniques. I am currently working on projects aimed at investigating the potential sex differences in bone marrow-derived macrophage function. Similarly, I am investigating the effects of role of lactate and ketone metabolism in macrophages following myocardial infarction. I am currently mentoring three master's students. These students are also interested in investigating non-invasive methods of blood flow measurement. I am confident that we will be able to submit our work for publication soon.
My goal for the next six months is to continue to learn new techniques and start investigating muscle macrophage's function following myocardial infarction. I plan to submit a F32 focusing on the macrophage metabolism in muscle following myocardial infarction and the influence of different exercise styles. Lastly, I plan to finish the current human studies and submit another human protocol.
